Overview
Modern AI stacks reason at the top and settle at the bottom, with nothing purpose built in between. Qatom fills that missing middle: discovery, payment, verification, settlement, and audit, woven into standard HTTP calls so software can buy, sell, and prove capabilities autonomously.
The missing middle
On the top layer, models reason and orchestrate in milliseconds through protocols like Anthropic's Model Context Protocol. On the bottom layer, settlement still relies on 1970s card rails with 2.9% + $0.30 fees, or public blockchains burdened by gas volatility and privacy leaks.
Qatom weaves transparently between existing AI runtimes, such as Claude Code, Cursor, and custom LLMs, and your backend API microservices. The result is that software can transact and verify inside the same request, at web speed, whether the money ends in a stablecoin or a conventional bank account.
The core technology, explained simply
Payments travel directly inside standard HTTP request headers as small bearer files. Like cash handed across a counter, value is delivered inline with the API request in under a second, with no card swipe fees, gateway delays, or blockchain gas.
Instead of copying every transaction to a massive public ledger, each asset behaves like a library book with its own loan card inside. Proof of ownership and history travel within the asset file itself, so verification happens locally and offline, without touching a central server.
Agents run inside guardrails. Hard budget stop lines reject further calls the instant an allowance reaches zero, and an agent cannot secretly hand its authority down to unmonitored sub agents. No runaway loops, no rogue spend.
Settlement and audit stop being separate silos. Every call generates a self contained decision record where the prompt, the reasoning trace, and the payment receipt are cryptographically tied together, so past records cannot be altered or faked. Compliance is built in, not bolted on.
